What are Yoga Privates

Yoga privates are one-on-one sessions tailored to address your unique needs, body shape, and personal history. This method of teaching has been practiced for centuries, while group classes are a more recent development. In a private session, there are no one-size-fits-all approaches; every aspect of your practice is customized to meet both your immediate and long-term goals.

Why try Yoga Privates?

Privates serve many purposes.

  • Beginners use them to get comfortable before entering group classes.

  • Assist in the recovery from an injury.

  • Cross-training/recovery for golf, pickleball, tennis, cycling and running.

  • For students needing adaptations for a condition (e.g., pregnancy, low back pain, hip replacement, scoliosis, osteoporosis).

The majority of my private clients wish to more consciously address a medical condition or physical limitation. I have extensive experience adapting yoga poses for those with scoliosis, disc injury, and other spinal conditions.

Who Benefits from a Yoga Private?

My students are ordinary people dealing with pain, athletes cross-training to improve performance, professionals looking to reduce stress and find ease, and super-parents needing someone to nurture them and hear their needs. I work with all genders, ages and capacities. The beautiful thing about yoga is that it meets you where you are. No prerequisites are necessary, no flexibility or athleticism required.

What Can I Expect?

Privates take place in a beautiful room with hardwood floors and lovely plants. It's equipped with props, a Swedish Ladder, and wall ropes (traditional tools for traction/making space in compressed joints).

At our first meeting, I take the time to listen deeply to your story. The multiplicity of factors that has lead to injury or illness is considered carefully alongside your goals. Next I assess your movement and posture patterns. This is how I detect asymmetries and postural imbalances that may be contributing to or exacerbating your pain or issue.

Most clients meet once weekly. During those sessions, in collaboration with your feedback, I personalize yoga therapy sequences to you. Each pose, action and breathwork exercise is customized to meet your unique needs and anatomy.

When desired, these sequences are combined to create a home practice tailored to your lifestyle (practice frequency, time of day, amount of time available, learning style and energy level).

*The yoga therapy components of my practice are derived from Doug Keller's Therapeutic Wisdom of Yoga Trainings, as certified through the International Association of Yoga Therapy, not derived from my instructor status as E-RYT and YACEP with Yoga Alliance Registry.
